Smithers BC Canada

July 29th, 2010

I am doing 2 postings today to break up the information. You will need to scroll down to see the previous one. From Whitehorse we went to Dease Lake and just stayed overnight. It was a long drive and the road was very bad so since we were all tired we cooked a easy meal Pizza. Then we worked on some changes to our schedule and arranged for Gloria to met up with us in Seattle August 9th. We left Dease Lake early this morning and arrived in Smithers around 4. The road was better then yesterday but it was still a long day on the road. There is a lot of pretty lakes in this area and I did see a bear near the road and Bill & Lahoma saw a large Moose. As we come farther south it is warming up and no coats were needed today. In fact I need to put some of my winter clothes under and bring up my summer ones. We finally got phone service so everyone had to catch up on calls and emails then we drove into town and made tee times for tomorrow morning. This RV park is called Riverside golf and RV park but this course is just a par 3 which would be fine for me but the guys like to play a "real course". This park is very nice it has big trees and nice green areas for dog walking. Bill and Rich are out practicing putting at the "unreal course". I guess it is good enough for putting. The dogs have settled down and are napping  the roads the last 2 days interrupted their napping time so they are trying to catch up. Well I need to make a few phone calls and I will try to make my next post more timely.

Whitehorse

July 29th, 2010

Sorry it has been so long since I posted but the days have been full and we are tired at night so the time is flying by. From Valdez we went to Whitehorse again and this time we stayed at a different RV park much nicer. (Hi-Country RV Park). we stayed 3 nights. The first day we did a day trip driving to Skagway. The scenery was very interesting it looked like a foreign land. Skagway is one of the port cities where cruise ships dock so we were expecting the town to be bigger. All the towns and cities in Alaska are smaller then we expected. The town was small but it still managed to have many tourist shops and about 10 jewerly stores. I guess the people that go on cruises buy jewerly. We did have a nice resturant with good food. The next day we played golf and we had good weather but it did not help my game. On our last day at this stop was set aside to stock up on groceries, clean, wash clothes etc... The grocery store was different it had a lot of french brands and few of our standards one.

We got sad news on the last morning in Whitehorse. Bill heard from his sister that their step dad Al had passed away. He was quite a character and will be missed by all who knew him.

Valdez

July 23rd, 2010

Arrived in Valdez on Wednesday. After checking out the town we went to where the silver salmon were running. I never saw so much fish in my life.Rich went back the next day with his rod and caught his limit. We cooked all we could eat and froze the rest. We leave here this morning and head to Tok. The view from the RV park is great but when I get the camera out to take a picture the clouds come in and cover up the mountains, Glacier and waterfalls. We spent yesterday cleaning the RV, car, clothes and the dogs. Well that's all for now. Moe

Homer

July 16th, 2010

We are in Homer and I have a beautiful view out the dining room window. There is the ocean ( at high tide) with mountains in the background and they are snow and ice capped. So relaxing to look at. It is 7 pm and the sun is still high in the sky. The scenery from Anchorage to here is the best that I have seen. When we checked in the lady said that they have had mostly cloudy days all month but today is the best day she has seen all monh. tomorrow is supposed to be sunny also. We drove down to the docks so that Rich could  book his fishing trip. We saw the boats bringing in today's catch. You can not believe the size of the Halibut we saw one that weighed in at  67 lbs and later we saw one that was bigger but we don't know what it weighed. I hope Rich comes back with a decent size catch since he has been looking forward to fishing ever since we left texas. He will be getting up early like he used to do for work. I plan on sleeping late. Not sure yet what Lahoma, Bill and I will do tomorrow.  I want to catch up on the laundry and then maybe check out the neighborhood shops.

Anchorage

July 15th, 2010

Hello Again,

We had a good day trip through Denali Park and we got to see many animals. Caribou, bears, Dall Sheep, Moose, Ravens, and others that I can't remember the names of right now.(it's tough getting old) You will have to look at Rich's pictures. We are now in Anchorage and we drove around to visit the town and shop at the fur store Lahome got a fur vest and I got a fur key chain. It is a nice size city big enough to have all you  need but not so big that it takes long to get around. We had a reindeer hot dog from a street vendor and it was very good. This evening we went to a show that featured sled dogs it was corney but the dogs were nice to see. Yesterday we went to flattop mountain which has a great view of the entire city on the way back we saw a mama Moose and her calf on the side of the road. We bought tickets today to go on a all day cruise after we get to Seward on the 19th to see the glaciers and have dinner at Fox Island. Hope we don't freeze. We are leaving tomorrow to go to Homer that is where Rich is planning to do some fishing. At this point I don't think anyone is going with him. It depends on how long the fishing trip will be and what accommondations the boat has.

Well that is all for now.
