First week of retirement !
May 7th, 2010W O W ! Just doesn't seem to say it all. I feel like I am still at work as busy as I was this week.I got the motor home out of storage, got two front tires, transmission oil and filter changed, filled it up with water and tested all the appliances. The ice maker, refrigerator, freezer worked well. The water heater worked but found a slight leak in the water line going to the commode. It took awhile but I ended up running a new supply line to the flush lever valve.I installed the blue-ray disck player, had to pull the flat screen tv out to get the HDMI cable it the back of it.Next week I am going to empty the basement storage area, vacuum and re-load it with see-through containers we are taking loaded with bulk items and summer clothing that we won't need for the first three months. We decided to get a washer/dryer before we leave to make it easier to keep up with laundry chores. We will be able to do a load while driving down the road.It is supposed to take 3 hours to do a load washed and dried. The combo unit will arrive in two weeks and the motor home was equipped with hookups when we bought it so the hardest part will be getting it up the stairs.
Besides doing daily chores, mowing, edging and watering, took the pickup in for state inspection, fixed a flapper on a flush valve in the guest room commode. On my last day at work we caught a baby rabbit so I brought it home and turned it loose.Did not see him for a couple of days figured he was laying low.I have seen him hopping about the last two days having a good time and looking perky.
Next week I will spend a lot of time getting the boat cleaned and ready for storage, running the motor, clean the seating and put the cover on and get it in the lift and out of the water.Should have most of the odd ball stuff claened up and the following week start cleaning the outside of the motor home and waxing it,detailing the tires and chromed rims. That only leaves loading the rest of the clothes and food supplies and we are ready to start the adventure.
I have been wondering how things at wrok are going and what all the folks are doing.Well that's it for now.

The last day !
April 29th, 2010Well...... I am down to a wakeup.....it is becoming real....tomorrow is the last time I will get up and go to work....if I did not have adventure planned that could be very scary .....no place to go and nothing to do.....but I am very fortunate to have a giant adventure to look forward to and occupy my mind.....I have been given a heads up not to call in sick as people have plans to say good-bye.I am deeply touched.I will definately miss my fellow employees....such a varied group of great people focused to complete one goal.....and together they do a fantastic job.....I don't tell them often enough how good they make the managers look good....we could not do it without their fantastic effort.....I have been to a lot of other branches and we here at Farmers Branch are extremely fortunate to have had great branch managers and currently have one of the finest managers leading a talented team. I will surely miss them all.

The last week
April 26th, 2010Today was called 4 days and a wakeup.........I thought the last two months would be a slide downhill but I swear I've been working harder than if I'd have stayed....trying to get every possible thing completed before "last" day.

April 21st, 2010Today I became a single digit midgit !!! I am told that in the military when a soldier has 9 days or less till he gets out of the service he is reffered to as a single digit midget. Well today is day 9.

18 days to retirement
April 14th, 2010It is almost a reality and I am looking forward to the new experience. It will be a totally different way of life not interacting with all of my fellow employees and vendors on a daily basis.A lot of them will be deeply missed.I am looking forward to the month off to get the motor home ready and getting the house shut down for the trip before we depart June 1 st. I finally get to sleep late and don't have to get up at 4 am to beat the traffic.I will still be wondering if the guys will get everything done on time and keep the building running smoothly.I will miss my vendor contacts and kidding around with them.I would like to thank everyone I work with for making my time at Glazers a real delight and experience I will never forget you.
On a lighter note I am starting to make reservations at some of the more popular tourist spots along the way and am glad I have. One place had filled up 8 weeks before I arrive, They had no sites to accomodate my 38' motor home and I had to find a place 60 miles away from Jackson Hole to stay.Another location in the Dells had only 4 spots left that fit my RV due to having two rally's going on during that week.Once we leave the lower 48 I do not anticipate any problems in Canada or Alaska finding a spot as we are self contained and can dry camp and don't have to have hookups every night.
